The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the spread of the most contagious variant of the XE coronavirus infection. According to the foreign press,
According to the results of preliminary studies by WHO experts, the infectivity of the new strain maybe 10% higher compared to BA.2, or “stealth-Omicron”. However, as the scientists stressed, it is still too early to tell if XE will spread in the same way as the “stealth Omicron”. This will require more data.
Earlier, the head of the scientific group for the development of new diagnostic methods based on sequencing technologies of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, Kamil Khafizov, assured that the new strain of coronavirus infection XE, which was recently discovered by British scientists, is unlikely to have super-unique properties. Accordingly, the risk of an outbreak of the disease is excluded. He noted that scientists distinguish three different lines that were formed as a result of the break and connection of nucleic acids of different strains: XD, XE, XF. XE - a combination of options "Omicron" BA.1 and BA.2 ("stealth-Omicron").
British scientists have identified a new sub-variant of Omicron - a strain of coronavirus, which they called the letters XE. The UK Health Safety Agency said experts could not yet say if it is dangerous.
On April 5, Maria van Kerkhove, head of the World Health Organization's technical team on COVID-19, reported that infection with a hybrid of the Omicron and Delta strains does not entail a more severe course of the disease. According to her, the "level of detection" of such a hybrid in the world is low.
In Russia, a large-scale campaign for vaccination against coronavirus infection continues. The country has registered six drugs that citizens can be vaccinated with: Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, KoviVac, EpiVacCorona-N, and the Sputnik M vaccine for adolescents.
